The team at Broken Roads, both Australian and international members, would like to acknowledge the Elders of these lands past and present. This land was never ceded.

27th May to 3rd June is National Reconciliation Week, a time when this Nation must continue the essential work towards justice and reconciliation in this Country. We want to acknowledge that this has been, and continues to be, a long journey.

With Cienan Muir of Indiginerd recently joining the team as Narrative Consultant on Broken Roads, we are building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, taking responsibility and accountability by providing opportunities in working with us.

“We want to acknowledge the intergenerational resilience of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and we want to honour the many generations who have cared for this land,” says Cienan. “Having Aboriginal voices on the team is the first step toward opening a dialogue with players about this country’s history that can help bridge intergenerational gaps and provide a fundamental perspective on what it means to be Australian.”

We recognise that this is just a small step, but it is such a crucial step. Together with Cienan and the assistance of the Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre a short distance from our studio, we’re able have the crucial input of Aboriginal perspectives on Aboriginal storytelling.

We’re grateful for their expertise, their knowledge, and their history, and we hope we can do justice to their words.
